Clean Water and Growing Care: A Transformational Season at the CFF Rotary Medical Clinic

The first quarter of 2026 marked a season of remarkable growth for the CFF Rotary Medical Clinic in Nguruman, Kenya. As patient numbers continued to rise, the clinic simultaneously completed one of its most ambitious infrastructure projects to date: a community water filtration and purification system designed to provide safe drinking water to both clinic patients and the surrounding community.

This new water system represents far more than a construction project. In a region where access to clean water remains limited, especially during heavy seasonal rains and flooding, the system will support safer medication administration, maternal-child health, disease prevention, and daily community needs. The filtration building now houses a reverse osmosis purification system, rinse and filling stations, packaging infrastructure, and a hybrid solar power system to ensure reliable operation even in remote conditions.

The project was made possible through a partnership between Sumner Rotary Club and Team Agape-Kenya, with a combined investment of nearly $24,000 toward the construction, solar infrastructure, and purification equipment. Despite difficult weather conditions, transportation delays, and site-specific construction challenges, the project moved steadily forward throughout the quarter.

Most importantly, the newly completed filtration system was officially inspected and approved by the Kenyan Public Health Department as safe for human consumption. Final finishing touches on the building are now being completed, and clinic leadership is finalizing standard operating procedures for safe community distribution. The clinic is therefore very close to officially opening clean water access to the surrounding community — an important milestone for improving long-term public health outcomes in the region.

At the same time, the clinic itself experienced its busiest month since operations

began. Between January and March 2026, the clinic served a total of 320 patients, with monthly patient volume increasing by 66% from January to March. In March alone, 128 patients received care at the facility.

The rainy season brought a significant increase in respiratory and infectious illnesses, including upper respiratory infections, pneumonia, and malaria, which together accounted for nearly half of all clinic visits during March. Children represented nearly one-third of patients served, while maternal and women’s health services continued to expand steadily within the community.

This quarter also marked several major milestones for the clinic’s long-term sustainability. The Children Future Foundation–Rotary Health Clinic received official approval as a Level 2 Medical Clinic through Kenya’s Ministry of Health and was formally added to the Kenyan health provider registry. The clinic is now approved to provide routine immunizations and antiretroviral therapy (ARV) services for patients living with HIV, significantly expanding access to essential healthcare within the region.

As patient demand grows, clinic leadership continues to focus on strengthening staffing capacity, improving referral and transportation systems, and expanding maternal-child health outreach. The progress seen this quarter reflects not only increasing community trust, but also the profound impact that sustainable infrastructure, local partnerships, and consistent donor support can have in underserved regions.
